Born and raised in Chicago, Julio “DJ Illanoiz” Calderon started DJing in 1992. Growing up in the ‘80s created a perfect environment for getting a toe into music, At the tender age of 12, Julio's first major event was at the acclaimed Alcatraz nightclub in Chicago. He moved to Birmingham, Alabama in 1997 and became part of the BMW crew.

There, he received the name Illanoiz as a colleague complimented his beatbox skills. In 2000, Julio won the beatbox competition at BBoy Pro AM in Miami. In 2011, he joined the politica duo Rebel Diaz and toured throughout Europe. He then moved to New York and made his way through the Bronx as a Latinx turntablist.

Julio was voted 2014’s Next DJ at AllHipHop.com, and was the first home DJ at the Red Bull BC One Chicago qualifier. He also received the Harry Belafonte Award for Hip Hop Recognition in Cuba. He has opened for such legends as KRS One, Camp Lo, N.O.R.E, Common, Pharcyde, Rah Digga, Slick Rick, Dead Prez and Santana - to name a few. Through youthworkshops, DJing and activism, DJ Illanoiz’ mission is simple: to spread music, and spread love.
