John Simmons is a veteran DJ from Chicago with twenty five years of experience on the decks. Growing up with a strong foundation in soul, jazz, funk, '80s & '90s music, John caught the dance music bug in the early 1990s & soon found himself immersed in Chicago’s music scene. While maintaining a countless number of residencies at Chicago venues over the years, John has played alongside many of the music industry’s greats, such as Frankie Knuckles, Cajmere/Green Velvet, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, & Kaytranada, to name a few. His stint as resident DJ at the legendary nightclub Smartbar in Chicago was a career highlight that saw him sharing the stage with some of these artists on a regular basis. John has traveled well, performing outside of Chicago in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, San Francisco/Oakland, Seattle, Montreal, Vancouver, Mexico City, Berlin, Cairo, & many more. 

John is a longtime fixture in Chicago’s nightlife & event industry, having many notable residencies at local venues since 2001. John spins regularly at many venues in Chicago such as Smartbar, House of Blues, Thalia Hall, Untitled, Ace Hotel, Danny’s, Slippery Slope, East Room, The Whistler, and Elastic Arts.

Joining the Style Matters group in 2011 has allowed John to perform at many of Chicago’s most popular venues, and has given him extensive experience doing mobile events, from the downtown hotels to near westside loft spaces.
