It is definitely an understatement to say we lucked out with Spencer and Style Matters. With a cocktail type reception, our aim was to get people out of their chairs and dancing as early and as long as possible. The best mental picture we can provide is as follows: The mother of the bride led the dance floor (twice actually) to Flo Rida as she sang 'Apple Bottom Jeans, Boots With The Furrr...' and included all of her own spontaneously choreographed dance moves while our friends joined in! Anyone can get on the web, pick a traditional DJ company to work with, and be just fine, but who wants their wedding to be 'just fine'? Style Matters makes a wedding memorable. They surpassed our expectations in all aspects through their professionalism, easy-going attitudes, honesty where it mattered most, experience, and the way they could take the tension out of wedding planning. Spencer was the most integral part of the event planning and it was great to use his knowledge of what works and what doesnt, to maintain the flow throughout the night. The logistics of our venue did not make his job any easier but Spencer made our night run smoothly from start to finish! Spencer spent the time with us upfront to learn about our personalities and expectations for the night. Spencer and Style Matters was the perfect fit for our special day and we have enjoyed all of our friends and family telling us 'That was the most fun dancing wedding I have ever been to!'. We would recommend Spencer and his team to anyone looking for a guaranteed packed dance floor on their wedding night! |

After using Style Matters for two events now, I cannot express how pleased we have been with them. I received an email and a call within twenty-four hours of placing a request, and the exceptional experience did not stop there. The DJs (most recently, Margot) made sure that all of our needs were met, including song requests, microphones, and arrival time. The days of the events, the DJs were already set up when we arrived and on hand to meet last minute music needs. I could not have asked for a better experience with Style Matters and would recommend their services to anyone. |

On April 12, 2008 in the beautiful historic Walnut Room of Macys State Street Store, Connections for Abused Women and their Children (CAWC) hosted its Annual Spring Gala, Sounds of Silence. 300 guests enjoyed an evening of cocktails, seated dinner, silent and live auction, and wonderful music provided by Style Matters DJS. Music was particularly important for this year's event as in previous years the event had suffered from guests negative comments on entertainment. Spencer Lokken created a selection of music that was perfect for each portion of the evening from background music through the cocktail reception and dinner for guests to enjoy and then dance music that got the crowd up and on their feet after dinner. Even though the event had a mixed age group of the guests (from young adults through retirees) Spencer delivered a play list of music that was enjoyed by all. When the event closed at 11 pm, it was difficult to get people off the dance floor as everyone was having such a good time. CAWC is happy to report that this yearÕs event raised more money to help victims of domestic violence and their children than ever before thanks in part to the entertaining atmosphere created by Style Matters. Thank you Spencer. CAWC will always be grateful for your role in making our event a huge success. |

Spencer was with us during the ceremony, cocktail hour, and through the reception. We could not have been happier. Since music was such a huge part of our day we wanted someone to be on the same page with our style, adding personal and subtle groovy touches having our guests say, 'nice choice' all night long. About half of our guest list were friends from all, over and a common thread among all of us is music. Spencer was open to listening to artists we recommended so he could get a feel for our style. He hit it right on the head. Our dance floor was literally "Bouncin' 'Round The Room". OK that was cheesy but it really was! We have had nothing but compliments from the play list, to SpencerÕs atmosphere he gave us during the reception with his scratching and live mixing. The great thing about Spencer is he adapts to you personally as a client to make it the best event for you and your guests. We had total faith in Spencer, which made it so stress free and enjoyable. I highly recommend the Style Matters Team. |

We wanted something great for our wedding and especially didn't want the typical wedding music/line dance songs that you hear at so many weddings. We first came across Spencer and Style Matters on Craigslist and immediately wanted to meet him and know more! He was very friendly and laid back (in a good way!) and really listened to what we had envisioned for our wedding and our music. We really liked his personal approach to helping us with the music. So many bigger companies do not give personalized attention or care to really get to know what their clients like and want. He was very willing to give suggestions if we asked for them and just picked out music for us based on our tastes. One of my biggest concerns was playing music that every age would enjoy and dance to. Well, I have never seen such a packed dance floor through the whole night! So many people commented how great the music was. He really played a great mix of songs and music starting with dinner and going until the end of the night. Not only is he great at what he does, but he was so nice and really fun to work with! Spencer was by far one of our favorite vendors and we would recommend his company to everyone that wants good music played at their wedding or event! |

Thank god we found Style Matters DJs on Craigslist! We absolutely feared the cheesy cornball traditional wedding DJ we all dislike at weddings. We came across Style Matters on Craigslist and we couldn't have more satisfied with their service. Spencer is extremely professional, insightful, creative, and he basically just spun a great set! He gave us honest feedback, as well as suggestions when it came down to choosing songs for our first dance, introdutions, etc, which we greatly appreciated. We did provide him a list of 'must plays' from various genres (Latin, old school soul, R&B, etc.). He was completely on board with our set list and he did a phenomenal job mixing the tracks. We always hear the bride and groom don't truly have the time to enjoy dancing at their wedding, but we definitely made the time since the music was so on point! Everyone had a great time and that defintely reflected by the amount of people on the dance floor. Spencer, we were glad to have found you and we wish you the utmost success with your business. |

Music makes a reception. That's why I highly endorse Spencer Lokken of Style Matters Djs. He is a unique balance of professional and hip. As a bride, I was worried about finding someone tastefully creative, but who I could rely on and work with easily. Spencer is that professional. As a result, our dealings with him went smoothly. He drew out from us what we were looking for and executed it perfectly. In fact, he even coordinated the music of our emotional ceremony. He handled that pressure-filled job expertly. When it came to the cocktail music and reception, he played music that everyone raved about. He doesn't just play a song, then another song, etc. He actually transitions the music to keep the party going. Even our vendors remarked that he was the best they had ever heard. Now our wedding coordinator can't stop recommending him. I just can't express enough how utterly influential he was. He truly made our reception! Bottom line: If you're a couple looking to 1) give your guests an amazing reception that will have them talking for weeks after the wedding and 2) not worry about one more thing on your wedding day, hire Style Matters. You will not regret it. -LauraSpencer Lokken & Style Matters did our wedding and were, in a word, (or two) #$!@** Awesome! People told us after our wedding that not only was our wedding one of the best that they'd been to, but one of the best PARTIES that they'd been to in a long, long, time. Compliments didn't just come from the guests, either, RECEPTION STAFF! were giving compliments -- phrases like "the best DJ we've ever heard" -- not "heard at a wedding" -- just "heard." If you are a complete moron, Spencer and Style Matters is probably not for you. You'd waste their talents playing "Celebration" and the "Chicken Dance." Spare Spencer (and yourself) that humiliation! But, if you want to host one of the coolest parties you've ever hosted, look no further. Cocktail lounge music, dinner jazz, and uber-hip dance music. Yep. That good. -Michael |

We cannot say enough about Spencer and what he did for us! Our wedding was back in July of 2007 and, to this day six months later, when people approach us and talk to us about our wedding, one of the first things they mention is the great music that night. From the first time we made contact with Style Matters online, to our first meeting, and on the wedding day itself, Spencer was a true professional and treated us with nothing but the utmost respect. When we approached him with the idea of a Pink Floyd cocktail hour, an idea shot down by other DJs we looked in to, he immediately expressed his interest and excitement over the idea. He was very in tune with our musical tastes and was not afraid to experiment. He even agreed with our idea to use Orff's "Carmina Burana" as our intro! We have been to several weddings before and after our own and we can honestly say that Spencer was the best DJ out of the lot (and not just because he was at ours!). Style Matters is not a group comprised of cookie cutter DJs by any means. They are not going to give you any of the cheese and annoying banter that most MCs do at weddings. They'll defy the laws of tradition and axe that annoying chicken dancing song and the Great America theme song if you ask them to! Many of the other DJs we have seen also couldn't mix songs together to save their lives! Spencer's experience as a club DJ is truly evident in the way he blended each song together without ever missing a beat. We believe Spencer made our wedding a memorable one, not just for us, but for our guests. The night stayed rocking and the dance floor never emptied. He's that damn good! Accommodating, professional, honest, Spencer is an original and we highly, HIGHLY recommend his company to you! You will not find a better group of wedding DJs. If you want the typical and the boring, I'm sure the Eddie and Jobos of matrimony will be more than adequate for you. If you want someone that will bring their expertise and combine it with your own personal touch, then Style Matters is where it's at! The entertainment at a wedding can really make or break it. Aside from the ceremony and the food and the venue, the music is what people will remember the most. You will not get that with Style Matters. They are the best you will find and you WILL NOT be disappointed. They will make your reception one you and your family and friends will remember forever. Thank you Spencer! You are the best! |

My husband Colin and I found Style Matters through a recommendation from a friend. We checked out their listing on Craigslist while we were planning our wedding and immediately noticed how differently Spencer approached his business than the brochures and emails we had received from other local DJs. We have both attended enough weddings throughout the years to know that the DJ can really make or break the party at the reception. When it came to planning our own wedding, we wanted a DJ that would play music that appealed to the wide age range of our guests. We wanted the music to flow smoothly through the different events of the evening, without the awkward interruptions of fast to slow music, or stopping a good round of dancing to do the bouquet or garter toss. When we first met with Spencer, he gave us a CD with samples of his music. One part that set Style Matters apart from the other DJs is he divided the music into different groups to match the different events taking place during a reception. We were also delighted to find out that Spencer is also a classically trained violinist and plays regularly at events with his group String Theory. For our wedding, we decided to have String Theory play for our cocktail hour and have Style Matters DJ the reception. We are so thrilled with the way our reception turned out. The music was great and matched the different events and moods of the evening. Most of our guests stayed out on the dance floor until the very end. Since the wedding, we have had so many family members and friends compliment us about the great music. Style Matter and String Theory went above and beyond to provide us a wonderful and truly professional experience! |

Honestly, having the right music for our wedding was one of our biggest fears before we found Style Matters. Not only did Spencer make us feel comfortable during the planning process but he also took control of the reception and allowed us to enjoy everything about the biggest night of our lives. We have already recommended Style Matters to a number of our friends who are getting married, and would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a DJ who knows good music. Thank you Spencer for making our beautiful day so special, you truly were a diamond in the rough! |

Our experience with Style Matters was incredible. The one word we would sum it up with would be 'seamless'. The entire process was very smooth and natural from our first meeting with Spencer. We felt right at home at the first meeting, which coincidently was at his home. Spencer was very professional and brought to light all of the little things that may have been left out with all the other wedding planning going on. Spencer recommended us to welcome our guests before dinner and we thought it was a great idea that added a personal touch. It was well received by our guests and had we not used a company that took the time to meet with us and help us plan our event, it probably would not have happened. The music was great, the process was great, the DJ was great! It was seamless! Thank you Style Matters for a great experience. |

The morning after our wedding we ran into a friend at the airport and he asked us "if we had chosen ALL of the music at the reception?" When Chris replied that it was completely Max and Spencer he responded, "What? C'mon man. Bob Marley? Outkast? Belle & Sebastian?" Style Matters nailed it. No one wanted the night to end and I'm afraid we're going to be cynical at just about every wedding we go to with a cheesy DJ. Maintaining the momentum and keeping the music fresh is essential. Thanks for everything. |

AMAZING! Nothing less would be acceptable in describing Style Matters' services for our wedding. From the first e-mail, to follow up after the big day, Spencer was there. What really matters -besides style of course ;)- is the music. We continue to reminisce about having the perfect DJ for the perfect event. Spencer had his finger on the pulse of the crowd and served the auditory needs accordingly. Time and again our guests have commented on how wonderful our DJ's services were throughout the night. All that's left to say is a giant THANK YOU to Spencer for helping to make our night more memorable than we could have hoped. Thank you Spencer for such a great musical experience for which we will be forever indebted. |

We've been trying to put together the words to express our gratitude to Style Matters. We'll simply say, "They rock!" Peter and I love them. When I originally started looking for a DJ, it was like a long winter. I could not find what I was looking for anywhere. Everyone was trying to market themselves as the "cool", "hip" wedding DJ. When I finally called Style Matters, I was pleasantly surprised at how down to earth Spencer was on the phone. He understood why I was all about turntables (I used to throw parties in New York and my dad was a DJ). The Style Matters record collection is bananas! I was done. Finally, a DJ company I loved instantly. Peter and I don't live in Chicago, so for me to feel this way was stress relief. My wedding planner and I met with Spencer and Marco (our DJ), and the rest is history. Marco was awesome! I requested clean versions of music for the younger crowd. He did it. I requested that he mesh mine and Pete's eclectic music tastes from punk to hip hop, and he did it beautifully. People started dancing from the very first song, and mind you it was a daytime wedding reception! No one wanted to go home. Also, have to add that I loved the professionalism. Style Matters checks in on you. They check your event space. They're on time and the set up worked perfectly with the space. Another great point for us was that Marco was dressed so cool. I was scared of that wedding DJ with the bad tux and mic. Lastly, I wanted Marco to play his own music choices as well because he DJ's everywhere and I knew he would contribute some great music and it worked perfectly! Style Matters are not just wedding DJs, but DJs period. Thank you Spencer and Marco! |

Spencer was fantastic! The one thing my husband and I kept saying throughout all of our planning is that we wanted the wedding to be a party and for everyone to have a good time - and we all did! From the cocktail hour to the dinner to the dancing, the mood was perfectly set at all times. Spencer was great to work with. We sent him some of our favorites and he put together a program for the evening that didn't hit a false note. Everyone was up on the floor - even the older guests. He was also happy to go with the flow when we had a flurry of impromptu speeches and song requests. I'm not sure of his personal musical tastes, and that's pretty impressive. He didn't try to play what he wanted us to hear, but what we wanted to hear - of course compiled by his professional ear. We were so lucky to find Spencer and Style Matters and can't recommend them highly enough. They will do everything they can to make sure your day is perfect. Like ours was. |

Now that the wedding has passed, guests have gone home, and I am relaxing on my honeymoon, as promised, I owe Style Matters a review. Unfortunately, I am having troubles putting into words how outstanding Style Matters actually is. Spencer (our DJ and the owner) did an absolutely amazing job. The dance floor was never empty, he had everyone out there dancing their tails off from 8:00 - 11:00 when the venue raised the lights and kicked us out. Every one of my guests complimented us on getting married AND how awesome the DJ was. Some of my guests even wanted pictures with Spencer! Not only did he play great music, but he did a great job at controlling the flow of events during the entire night and really had control of the crowd, which allowed me and my bride to do what we needed to do. We also hired Spencer's chamber music trio, String Theory. During the ceremony they did an outstanding job, especially considering the wedding actually started about half an hour late due to the lovely Chicago traffic. Even with this delay, they played on and kept the crowd entertained. Not only are they great at their craft, they are all very professional and really likeable guys. If you are looking for a string trio for your wedding, or any other type of event, these are your go-to guys. I could babble on for hours about how great Style Matters was, but if I had to pick one word to sum it up, it would be "WOW". Great job Spencer, you run on heck of a company and are the definition of what a five star company should be. |

The music was the best part of our reception, thanks to Marco and the rest of the Style Matters crew. EVERYONE was up and dancing at one point or another. Marco put together a fantastic playlist that pleased every age group, without any of the typical wedding cheeseball songs we've all heard one too many times. He even threw in a few of his own creative mixes. I can't tell you how many compliments we received from our guests, especially for his extraordinary selection of 80's dance music, which he saved for the late crowd. Spencer Lokken, Style Matters' founder, was exceptionally professional and attentive to our needs. He listens intently and follows through with every request. My husband and I were rather picky about the music, to the extreme of having a "veto list" of songs. Marco stuck to this request, and even denied my father-in-law when he asked for the Beach Boys! We had our reception at the West Loop Studio, which is a large, modern loft space/photography studio. Style Matters was perfect for this location as they have a simple, yet elegant, state-of-the-art set-up sans the horrible strobe lights and circus acts you get with most banquet hall wedding DJs. Furthermore, these guys are professional industry DJs who regularly spin at places like Smartbar and Sonotheque. With Style Matters, you're not just hiring a wedding DJ, you're hiring a talented artist who truly knows music. |

What a magical night! It is with great pleasure that we write a testimonial for Spencer and more importantly our DJ, Duke. Dealing with these guys was a dream come true. We found them at the last minute and they worked very hard to make each and every detail perfect. Our reception was held on a boat--which provided some new challenges in terms of set-up, etc. for them, but it was all handled beautifully and without concern from us. Having Duke on the decks made our party something that we are still hearing was "the best wedding I've ever been to!". Duke was very willing to play exact songs at the exact times that we had designed and the night turned out flawless. We wanted a non-traditional mix and sound to our reception and he made it everything we wanted and then some! Thanks to Spencer and to Duke for all your help, professionalism, and great style. We highly recommend your services to anyone who will listen. In fact, our younger brother will be using Duke in March for his wedding! Keep up the great work! |

A Reluctant Groom Dances I admit I was cheap and skeptical. DJ? Trio? Why not an I-pod and a boom box? I have never, ever, been to a wedding where I enjoyed the DJ or the dancing. My fiance wanted a DJ, and I figured that this was another instance of "Yes, dear." and I should just grit my teeth and suffer through a night of wedding dance music. Blech. Spencer changed that. In our initial meetings Spencer walked us through the process. What came through is that he is crazy knowledgeable about music. He loves DJing and making people happy through dancing. Just talking to him it was clear we could trust him to make good musical choices. He made sure that he understood our musical tastes, and then he molded a night of music that fit us. It was a relief to hand the music off to him so we could focus our energy on other more pressing matters. As for his chamber group, String Theory, they were perfect. It is overwhelming to try and think of the "right music" for the ceremony. From a vague description of what we were going for ("something that had a Mozartian feel to it"), they picked a couple of pieces that were great. And for the DJing---I danced, the bride danced. I actually had a great time dancing at my wedding. More importantly, we had four generations of people dancing. People who have never in living memory been seen dancing...danced. Style Matters doesn't suck, they rock. Why are you reading this when you could be booking them? The reluctant groom, Aaron Smith

We are music snobs. Tony, being a musician, made the music for our reception top priority. Through our friends Tricia & Joe, previous Style Matters clients, we met Spencer Lokken. Thank God! Spencer was exactly what we needed to make our wedding "ours". We connected instantly at our initial meeting. Spencer truly understood our musical taste and made us even more excited to get married. He was easy to talk to, and made us feel at ease. He has the most wonderful laid back personality, but is completely professional. Before the wedding, he was a great help and readily available to answer any questions we had (even when I accidently hung up on him multiple times a few days before the wedding). The day of the wedding he took charge of what was needed and made everything carefree. Most importantly, he provided the ultimate soundtrack for our wedding. We had the most amazing time dancing all night long. From the moment we began dancing, until the end of the night, the floor was jam packed. The best part was the music was for everyone. From young to old, everyone danced and it made it the best wedding ever. Style Matters was the best decision that we made and we recommend them to EVERYONE! Trust us, you won't be disappointed. Spencer Lokken was the greatest! We felt that we were in very good hands as soon as we met him. He was extremely professional, and really listened to our requests. He played an excellent mix of our favorites, as well as other great tunes to please our diverse crowd of family and friends. Everyone was out on the dance floor having a great time. Style Matters, and more specifically Spencer Lokken, was phenomenal to work with during our whole wedding experience. Even from our first meeting with him, we saw that he paid attention to the finer details. We were very impressed with the way Spencer was able to show his style as a DJ at our reception while accommodating our many specific song and timing requests. He did an outstanding job of blending cultures by mixing Indian music with hip hop, R&B, and the rest of his outstanding music collection, both during dinner and on the dance floor. The music he played catered to all cultures at our wedding and made them feel comfortable. He really had a feel for how to make the night flow smoothly. He had the floor packed and got a lot of people who we have never seen dance before out on the dance floor. We highly recommend Spencer and Style Matters to anyone who is looking for a sophisticated DJ with amazing taste in music. |

Spencer rocked! He DJ'd our wedding reception, and we were very impressed with his professionalism and the ease with which he helped us plan our special evening. It's also clear that he really loves what he does; watching him spin records is entertainment alone. In college, Diana and I used to have our friends over for "dance parties" - everyone brought a small mix CD to play and we'd dance the night away. We wanted to do something similar for the wedding, and Spencer thought it was a great idea, so we went ahead and told our old friends to give us their playlists. Not only did he manage to satisfy our close friends by playing many of their eclectic choices, he also mixed in a bunch of his own great tunes so all of our extended family and friends had a great time as well. I actually had aunts and uncles dancing who I've never seen dance before. When Spencer mixed the original "Rollercoaster of Love" (by the Ohio Players) into the Red Hot Chili Peppers' version of the same song (one of our requests), it was amazing. You don't find that kind of thing at many weddings, which is a shame. Save a wedding reception! Hire Style Matters! |

Finding Spencer and his Style Matters crew was my favorite part of the wedding planning process. Amidst the numerous convoluted "packages" and "proposals" involved in planning a wedding, Style Matters' clear-cut approach was a breath of fresh air! From start to finish, Spencer and our DJ, Nate Manic, were organized, accommodating, friendly, and most importantly...they know how to ROCK the dance floor. I had high expectations but Nate completely exceeded them...the music was my favorite part of the wedding (besides the actual marriage, of course). Great music...non-cheese, perfect ratio of slow-to-fast songs, great selection of oldies-but-goodies (ie. "Africa" by Toto...who would have thought this would be such a hit on the dance floor?!), and Nate genuinely seemed to be having a great time making everyone happy. I would (and will) recommend Style Matters, Spencer and Nate to my family and closest friends with complete confidence. They were an absolute pleasure to work with and helped make our wedding an unforgettable experience. |

We've always been very particular about our music and we were extra
picky about what type of music we wanted at our wedding. We wanted a
DJ who could keep the party moving, but we were afraid of getting
stuck with some clown that concentrated more on music for Grandma, and
less on the bride and groom. We wanted our guests to feel like they
were at a party, not just a wedding. Style Matters fit the bill
perfectly.

Planning a wedding was, for us, a very stressful process. We were trying to keep to a pretty tight budget, neither of us is particularly organized, we're incredibly indecisive, and our families are as different as...well, as different as black and white. There were definitely moments throughout the planning process (LOTS of moments) where we wanted to throw in the towel, head to Vegas, and never look back. Therefore, it is says a LOT for us to tell you that we loved working with Style Matters DJs so much that we'd be willing to go through the misery of the entire wedding planning process all over again just to have the joy of working with Spencer Lokken. It's true. From our first meeting with him to the final song he played at our incredibly fun wedding reception, Spencer was so gracious, easy-going, nice, friendly, and accommodating. He made us feel completely at ease from day one, and we were confident that he'd rock our reception and keep everyone happy (not an easy task, given that the bride's dad digs the Irish Lyric Opera while the groom's mom is R. Kelly's biggest fan--no lie!). And, rock our reception he did! Our friends and family had a ball dancing to his awesome mixes of music, and we were all super-impressed with his ultra-cool vinyl collection, his knowledge of somewhat obscure Stevie Wonder songs, his friendliness, his accessibility, his entirely non-cheesy approach, his fly ass suit, his willingness to accommodate all our requests, and the all-around bang-up job he did. We would recommend Style Matters DJs to absolutely anyone, except our mortal enemies--they can have lame, canned music, played-out DJs, and stupid, boring receptions. The rest of us deserve the very best, and for us, without a doubt, the very best is Style Matters. |

Style Matters & String Theory were exactly what we wanted for our wedding: Hip, fun, and a pleasure to work with. We loved the elegant strings at the ceremony, the virtuosic piano at the cocktail hour, and the fun, funky spins at the reception. With no distracting chatter, Spencer kept our guests on the floor with the right mix of favorites and deep cuts. He welcomed suggestions, but we trusted his encyclopedic knowledge and instinct for a good time. When our friends ask about the great music, we tell them Style Matters. |

He's a former club kid, she was a high school/college radio station DJ... We knew exactly what we wanted in a wedding DJ: someone who could read the crowd and change the song if need be, someone who understood how important music is to the celebration (being an emcee or a having a predictable sense of "wedding humor"), someone who cared less about making money on a disco ball, sphere-light, fog package...and more on recreating a club scene with class at our reception... We knew Spencer was our guy right from his opening line on Craigslist. We were especially sold when we saw that he spins at some of the city's hot spots (that was actually one of our prerequisites). From our very casual, yet efficient e-mail banter, to the first meeting at our house...to our last meeting/impromptu dinner...and his genuine excitement the night of, we were impressed with Spence's professionalism, ability to accommodate, and well, overall coolness. Needless to say, our wedding went down as the one that was the most fun because of the seamless, ingenious mix(ing) of music, the lack of cheesiness, and creativity when it comes to tying different genres together. We can't say enough how much we enjoyed working with Style Matters...no stress, total confidence, and pure energy from start to finish...get ready to really enjoy your reception! |

Duke and Spencer at Style Matters were truly a pleasure to work with. After having doubts about hiring a DJ for our wedding, we are so glad that we did. From the beginning, they were so professional, accomodating, and kind. We had a good feeling that we were on the same page about the style of the DJ that would play at our wedding. Duke was punctual, did his research on our reception site, played the music we requested, and was willing to play past the contracted time. We couldn't have asked for more on our wedding day, and Style Matters definitely played a part in that! |

My husband and I were thrilled with the music at our wedding! We gave Spencer very little direction and he new exactly what to play throughout the entire night, at just the right times. We did not hear a bad song all night, and we are very picky about music. Our guests stayed and danced until 2:30 in the morning when the wedding was supposed to end at midnight. Spencer and Style Matters were so gracious and generous, and I can't even begin to count the compliments we received about the music. We honestly could not have asked for more! |

First and foremost, Spencer is a great DJ who deftly accomplishes the task at hand. That is, he keeps the records (or hard drive) spinning, and the people dancing and the party moving. Spencer is also a very intuitive, professional, and friendly person who does whatever it takes to make his clients happy. The crew at Style Matters are definitely not the average wedding jockeys. Not only do they rely on their impressive vinyl collections, but they also are not afraid to stray from everyone's typical wedding reception expectations. To quote (or paraphrase) Spencer: "Your audience does not need to recognize every song to enjoy themselves on the dancefloor." In my humble opinion, this is exactly the kind of thing you want to hear from your DJ on such a special occasion. It demonstrates confidence in their music collection and ability, and distinguishes Style Matters from the other "competition." Our guests were pleasantly exhausted at the end of the night from dancing to Billie Holiday and Joao Gilberto to Jamiroquai and Daft Punk. Once you hire Style Matters, there is one less thing to worry about for your special night because you and your guests are in good hands. |

The whole "wedding DJ" search was one we kept putting off. How could we have the reception of our dreams with some cheesy, cliche wedding DJ playing the standard "hits" from his list? Music is very important to us, and that was not how we wanted to remember our reception. We found Style Matters - specifically Spencer - online and felt a personal connection right away; we really liked his musical sense, style and direction. This was a far cry from other DJ's we met with, where we felt like a number in a line. We were particular about having our families comfortable on the dance floor, especially early on, and then speeding things up a bit at the end with some house, so we could really turn the party up. Spencer did a fantastic job the entire time, giving the right flow to the evening. During dinner we found ourselves grooving to his mix, which was probably our favorite part. Spencer and Style Matters were, BY FAR, the easiest decision we made throughout our entire wedding planning process. I would recommend them in a heartbeat, especially to those who really appreciate how a good flow of music really makes an event. Thanks again! |

Style Matters, specifically Spencer, was absolutely wonderful to work with. Spencer met with us, took time to understand what we were looking for and had great ideas and suggestions. I cannot say enough about how amazing of a job he did. Friends and family are still talking about how great our DJ was. I would recommend Style Matters to any couple that is looking for a group that really loves what they do, reads the crowd, and allows everyone to let loose and dance. |

I'm thirty and have been to enough weddings to know that you shouldn't have a light show, excessive talking, or the chicken dance. To get to know Spencer better, we were invited to hear him spin at Sonotheque and Moonshine. By the time we heard him at Funky Buddha Lounge, we were convinced. My wife and I chose Spencer to be our DJ because of his taste in music and his flavor as a DJ. Style Matters is not your stereotypical DJ company. There is no pressure to sell lights, fog or other tacky things. From the moment we met Spencer at Sonotheque, we felt at ease. He learned our tastes in music and asked about our families and cultural backgrounds. He was completely different from the other DJs we had been meeting with and his superior love for music was evident within fifteen minutes of talking with him. It was important for the music at our wedding to enhance the evening, also have a flavor that matched our individual tastes and styles. After we decided on Style Matters, Spencer met us in our home to get to know us better. We went over what his style was as he asked about our likes and dislikes in music. What we really loved was how knowledgeable he is with all genres of music--from jazz and old school hip hop to pop and electronica. I liked his love for Tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep, and dance music, while Michelle, who's from Minnesota, appreciated his love for Prince. Our wedding was black tie, starting at 7PM with Radiohead, downtempo and ambient music during dinner, and ending at 2AM exhausted dancing to hip hop and house. Spencer had a way of feeling out the crowd by playing the right song at the right time, he never cleared the dance floor with an overplayed or tacky song. Even today, my friends and family tell everyone about Spencer and how great it was to hear "real" music and not typical "wedding music." The music at our wedding was a representation of our style, and that's why we felt style mattered. |

Joe and I really wanted to throw a great party for our friends and family at our wedding. It was a priority! We were looking for a DJ who could keep the young and old on the dance floor all night without making the music too "wedding". After speaking to Style Matters for the first time, and discussing our musical likes and dislikes, we knew they could do the job. Following that first meeting and througout the months prior to the wedding, Spencer did a wonderful job of making us feel that our wedding was important to him by emailing occasionally and responding to any questions we had in a professional and friendly manner. We really felt he was listening to what we wanted, which is something we were unable to find while interviewing other DJs. In the end, not only was the dance floor at our reception full all night, as we wanted, but since the wedding, people have been telling us what a great time they had and how much they loved our DJ. I don't think I left the dance floor for more than two songs all night! Spencer will be spinning at our friends' upcoming wedding and we are definitely looking forward to it! |

I have nothing but great things to say about Spencer and Style Matters. He was an amazing DJ for our wedding and we had no problems with him whatsoever. He was great to meet with us before the wedding to feel out our musical taste and it just so happened that he had the library to back all of that up. We told him what we liked, he played that, he told us he had things that would flow well with our tastes and we trusted him and that effect was felt on the dance floor until the wee hours of the morning. This was important to us because we didnt want to have the same old music you hear at everyones wedding. We even had a special "Thriller" section where Spencer went out of his way to create an extended version of that famous Michael Jackson hit to give the entire wedding party time to assemble on the floor for a surprise choreographed dance routine. This was no easy task as we had all learned the dance from the music video and the actual song is a bit different but Spencer made the song do what we wanted it to do and the attendees were none the wiser. His selection of tunes had the entire crowd from 9-80 dancing the entire night. No one wanted to leave and for weeks afterwards we received many compliments about our DJ. There were never any cheesy moments, no standard wedding songs and that really helped carry the party atmosphere into our reception. He was an amazing help on organizing the introductions to each of the wedding party as the speeches were being made and was never pushy or intrusive on our special day. All that I can say is that Spencer & Style Matters was a great addition to our wedding and if I had to do it again they would still be my number one choice. |

Spencer was the DJ for our wedding in September, 2006. We interviewed a couple companies for the job, but quickly realized that Spencer and Style Matters stood out form the rest. He not only met with us beforehand to understand what we envisioned for the day, but gave some great suggestions on different types of music. We have been to some weddings where the music was outdated and cliché. We were relieved to meet Spencer because that is not what he is about! He played music that had all of our friends dancing, as well as our parents! He played songs that appealed to every generation - with out being "typical." Out of all the wedding vendors we had to rely on to make the day special, Style Matters was by far our favorite. |

Spencer's musical style was the finishing touch for our wedding. We picked Spencer and Style Matters because we wanted to work with an independent vendor who would listen to what we wanted -- someone who had musical and personal taste, and didn't carry a "wedding top hits" playlist in their portfolio. We were never disappointed. At our wedding, Style Matters looked good, pleased the crowd, and did a fantastic job of mixing our personal and eclectic musical tastes, from Brazilian bossa nova to classic Ella Fitzgerald, creating a very memorable and perfect atmosphere for our reception. |

Spencer does an unbelievable job of getting to know the couple and the music they love. He spent extra time exploring the reception venue ahead of time to assure that the event went seamlessly. Spencer was absolutely brilliant at integrating our favorite songs into a style that made our wedding reception exactly the way we always envisioned. |

Some months before our wedding, fears of the chicken dance and Kelly Clarkson had us considering renting some good speakers and plugging up the iPod. Where oh where could we find someone willing to indulge our weirdest music fantasies? A party where Ben Folds and The Killers rock out with Razorlight? A night where Bowie, Bjork, Johnny Cash and The Darkness sit around the dinner table like one big happy dysfunctional family? The answer was Spencer Lokken. Like most of our vendors, we found Spencer online. His Craigslist ad asked, "looking for a dj to spin at your wedding who isn't a *wedding dj*?" Spencer was awesome from the get-go. Aside from punctual, professional, and capable, he was basically the nicest most easy-going guy we could ask for. Plus, he has a great taste in music. Or at least, a willingness to pretend our taste was his taste. And did I mention easy-going? Because when our idiot friends began a series of drunken hook slides across the dancefloor - headed in the direction of his equipment table - Spencer didn't flinch. Recommended. |

When Kent and I were planning our wedding, music was an important part of our decision. We wanted to make sure that the music would keep people dancing, would complement the style of our wedding, and not force any of us to listen to the chicken dance or the hokey pokey. We are so glad we found Style Matters! The music was perfect, we suggested songs, but they were able to add songs that worked for everyone while keeping in our favorite style of music, plus they had so many great suggestions to help make sure that EVERYTHING went off without a hitch. After the wedding, so many people have told us that the music perfectly matched the people we are and that this wedding was definitely OUR wedding! Thank you so much for a beautiful day! |
