Our ninth annual showcase goes down this Friday night, April 15th, at Ovation from 5:30pm-???. The majority of the Style Matters DJs will each strut their stuff and play a short 20 minute set. Drinks and light bites on us. 21+. You must RSVP to email@example.com for entry. No cover. Tell Only Your Closest Friends.
Happy New Year, Chatterers. Our most sincere apologies for neglecting the blog recently. Saying we’ve been busy would be a massive understatement. Our new event space, Ovation, has been taking up all of our time. Alas, we’ve survived the holidays and are thoroughly enjoying the slow season. Keep checking back, we’ll be making regular updates to this section now that we’ve got some down time. Speaking of downtime, here’s how we spent this past Sunday evening. Rockin’ some downtown downtempo at the Soho House:
We recently posted a little contest on Ovation’s Instagram and gave away a pair of passes to our private opening in October. We were incredibly impressed that the winner was able to recognize the artwork below from Cashmere Cat’s splendid “Wedding Bells” EP. Figured some of you readers might like to have a listen to the tune. Weddings bell and creative sampling of a Kanye record…
Kudos to the man behind this insanely cool edit, Robert Jones, for picking one of the Style Matters crew’s favorite summer scorchers: Joywave’s “Tongues”. If you’re a fan of cinema, and/or no stranger to the dance floor, you’re in for a real treat right about now. How many films can you name?
We knew Sam Smith was going to be huge when we first heard his sultry vocals on last year’s “Settle”. The whole world knows Latch now but have you checked out the unplugged version without the Disclosure boys? Well, here you are:
Too chill? Then get a load of this uptempo rework of “Stay With Me” by our very own Andrew Manor (formerly known as Andrew Pascale):
Forgive us Style Chatter followers, we’ve been neglecting this blog to focus all of our efforts on destroying dancefloors. Oh, and you may have heard the news, our space is opening in a few short months. Head over to the Ovation Website and check out what we’ve been up to.
At long last, we’d like to officially announce our 2014 Style Matters DJs showcase. Due to our hectic weekend night schedules, we’ve opted to go the day party route this year. It goes down Sunday June 1st from 2pm-8pm. This is your opportunity to see all of us under, or rather on one roof.
Everybody loves the sunshine. Bring a friend or twelve and help us say hello to summer. Finally.
Stumbled upon this website the other day and thought this would be really cool idea for the right couple. We here at Style Matters obviously go to a lot of shows, and in doing so, have picked up umpteen tour posters along the way. In fact, I just grabbed one at Tycho this past weekend. But what if the artists designed a one of a kind poster solely for you and your partner? Kind of a neat idea, right? Learn more here: http://customalexander.com/
If you’ve been following this blog, you know that this past winter Style Matters partnered with Chicago Public Schools and After School Matters. Style Matters DJ, Max, was the lead instructor and had regular assistance from Nigel, among other DJs on our squad. It was a nine week program to teach teenagers all about the Art Of DJing. We’re looking forward to another group of kids for our summer session, and then we’ll move the course to our venue (Ovation) this fall.
Here’s a shot of the kids rocking our new t-shirts on the last day of class.
Lovebird Events asked us to participate in Martha Stewart’s Wedding Party again this year and we couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. Maybe it was the swank surroundings that influenced us but we went all out and decided to raffle off an entire night of our DJ services. We got almost a hundred entries and towards the end of the event we picked the winning couple. John and Kelly are getting hitched next year, most likely in Dallas, and we’re absolutely thrilled to be working with them.
You can tell a lot about a man by the shoes he wears. Especially at a wedding. I’ve been starting to put some new ensembles together for this spring/summer and a few weeks ago I picked up a pair of black designer sneaks with white soles. Today I see that GQ is proclaiming this will be a big trend this year.
Clearly we’ve been on top of our cinematography game this off season.
Here’s another one we’re excited about: the first ever promotional video of our live chamber ensemble, String Theory. String Theory has been around longer than Style Matters, and the musicians in our troupe (Spencer Lokken, Adrian Morris, Steve Bromley, Shaum Jhansale) have a single trait that ties us together. We just love to play music.
Couldn’t resist posting this stellar photo of Jason (Intel) performing in the Modern Wing of the Art Institute this past fall. Big thanks to Stoffer Photography, as well as our rad clients Erin and Michael Harris for sharing.
Here’s what happened when Noah and Spencer hopped out of the DJ Booth and into the photo booth at the most recent Thursday Therapy hosted by Five Grain Events. This one was a black tie affair at the Chicago History Museum.
We’re pretty excited about this one. Below is a new video created by our friends over at Great Eye Films. This was a wedding where the happy couple chose to have a DJ/drummer combo. This will give you a good feel for what a party looks and sounds like with both the DJ and live music element. Big thanks to John & Laura for letting us shoot their beautiful winter wedding.
Here’s to lots more DJ/drummer gigs in the summer-summer-summertiiiiiime.
We’re about ready to release a video of String Theory playing a ceremony at Salvage One but I realized that we needed to update our logo before we do. On super short notice, this is what our long time designer-extraordinaire The BZA came up with.
